Covalent Technologies Joins Forces with BEA Systems to Deliver Web Application Management

SAN FRANCISCO -- June 10, 2003—Covalent Technologies announced the immediate support of BEA WebLogic Platform™ in Covalent Application Manager (CAM). This support can deliver the first open standards-based Web application management solution for WebLogic Platform, enabling IT operations to improve the service quality and reduce the costs of their Web applications. Covalent and BEA Systems (Nasdaq: BEAS) have been working together to optimize the integration between CAM and WebLogic Platform so that applications are ready for production when they come out of development.

"We're pleased to see Covalent supporting BEA WebLogic Platform in their Web application management solution," said Scott Edgington, vice president and general manager, BEA Systems. "Our customers depend on WebLogic Platform to support their business applications. As a result, they need a management solution that is focused on applications, and Covalent has developed a product that can fulfill that need. The combination of BEA WebLogic and Covalent Application Manager can enable our customers to develop and maintain service level-compliant Web applications."

Instead of managing servers, CAM's application model can allow IT operations to manage their Web infrastructure within the context of the applications that support the business. Further streamlining management efforts, CAM is designed to combine all the core operational activities involved in managing applications. With CAM, users can map, measure, control and analyze their applications and the supporting resources.

Used by development groups worldwide, BEA WebLogic Platform is the industry standard for application development. Covalent is widely recognized as the operations expert for large scale Web environments and has built CAM from the ground up as an operations-targeted solution. The combination of BEA's development expertise with Covalent's command of IT operations can ensure that Web applications built on BEA are as easy to manage as they are to develop.

"Our Fortune 1000 customers turn to BEA WebLogic Platform for their mission critical business applications," said John M. Jack, chief executive officer of Covalent. "The support of BEA in Covalent Application Manager can enable IT operations to manage applications, not servers, and in the process improve the service quality of their Web applications without increasing costs."
